Announcements and Important Events
The fall sport season is officially underway and we were given the green light this week by the Conway School Board to continue with an abbreviated season! This is good news and we are so fortunate to be able to play. As the season moves forward, there are some things that we all must do to continue and stay healthy. We appreciate your support, cooperation and help following the guidelines and reminding our kids how lucky we are to be playing the sports we all have missed! PLEASE take the time to read this Information, because there is A LOT of important info here. *Believe me, I would rather be outside on the fields on a beautiful Friday afternoon, than typing all this up and sending it out… it’s that important! So, please take the time to read it.
Paperwork: It has been brought to my attention that we are missing forms from families through our new online registration process. The Google sign up form for parent & player contact info is not the registration forms that are needed.
*All online forms must be complete by Monday 9/21 in order for your child to continue with Fall Sports.* See the link below:
KMS Parents must log into their Parent Portal via PowerSchool and click on the “Forms” tab on the left then the Fall Athletics link. Proof of physical must be on file with school as well (good for 2 years). If you have not created an account, you must do so ASAP, and update school day info as well. If you need help, please contact Eric Cullen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have a Non-KMS Athlete, please bring completed paper copies with proof of valid physical to practice by Monday, 9/21 if you have not done so already. They can be found at Gokms.com under Files & Links.
Non-KMS and Non-JBES students are required to take the Daily COVID-19 Health Questionnaire each day prior to arriving at KMS (found on gokms.com)
If yes is answered on any of the health screening questions, please stay home – this pertains to everyone.
Physical Distancing and Face Masks will continue to play a huge part in our ability to continue with fall sports. Students and coaches must all be diligent when on the fields, during waiting time after school, and in between time and remember to:
- Keep 6 feet apart
- Wear masks during down time, in common areas or close proximity
- Use hand sanitizer before and after practices/games/meets (in every med kit)
- No sharing water bottles, snacks or personal items after school
- Keep personal belongings separated
Parents – Spectators & Fans: Per the Phase 4 guidelines set forth by the Kennett Athletic Departments, we will also be required to follow many of the same precautions listed above and below:
- Spectators will be limited to a maximum of four (4) Parents/Guardians per athlete for regular season games/races through September 27th. No other spectators will be permitted, including students and visiting fans. No siblings or grandparents, please. Game personnel (i.e. officials, school administrators, athletic trainers, media … etc.) will be allowed. Scrimmages are considered part of a practice, no spectators are permitted.
- Spectators will be required to wear face coverings and keep a distance of at least 6’ apart from anyone other than a household/immediate family members is recommended.
- This guideline will be re-evaluated on September 28th to allow for additional spectators, including the potential of permitting students and visiting fans, for the remainder of the regular season.
- If you are experiencing any of the symptoms or conditions as listed on the COVID-19 Health Questionnaire - Such as having left New England in the last 14 days, running a temperature of 100- or higher, experiencing shortness of breath, intestinal issues, new or unknown symptoms, loss of taste or smell – PLEASE STAY HOME.
Practice Schedule: I think it’s safe to say that we are all craving a regular schedule right now! Coaches will send out individual team information to parents via email, but there will be a general practice schedule as listed below (subject to change). Please create a plan with your child about how they will get home if a game or practice is cancelled because or weather or unforeseen circumstances. A friendly reminder: bus transportation after school is limited at this time; and there are no late buses at this time, either.
Boys & Girls Soccer, Cross-Country, Field Hockey will practice Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays and the occasional Tuesday and Friday for a game or two. Practice and game times will vary by sport.
Football will practice Monday through Thursday, and an occasional Friday with games on Wednesdays once they begin. Coach Stearns will send out dates and times each week.
These schedules are subject to change and as with everything COVID-19 related, things will change during the season. ** If your child is feeling sick, please keep them home and contact your coach. Reminder: Practices are closed to parents and we ask that you stay in your cars when you arrive to pick up your athletes.
Game Schedules: These are posted on www.GoKMS.com and are subject to change. Some teams will have athletes on a rotating basis, so be sure to look for specific game/team information from your coach.
Sign up at GoKMS.com – be sure to sign up for announcements for game/practice changes and cancellations, general sports updates and other important sport information. Once you create an account – you can update your alert selections under the “Fan Dashboard” by selecting the “My Favorites/Alerts”, then choose your sports and choose the announcements you wish to receive. Most importantly, be sure to add your email and cell phone number under the “Alert Settings” link.
As we all know, things are ever-changing during this COVID-19 pandemic. Our plan at Kennett Middle School is to offer a quality, athletic program and experience for our student-athletes to the best of our ability during this unprecedented time. KMS will be following the Phase 3, and in to Phase 4, guidelines set forth by the Kennett High & Middle School Athletic Department and SAU9 Re-entry committee. We may offer in-house intramural, when allowed by sport and participation numbers, and we will continue to monitor our local health conditions and start to compete against other local/nearby schools toward the end of September/beginning of October. Parents can opt-out of this if they are not comfortable with this at that time. Again, this is an ever changing “plan” and we want to be safe and cautious as we navigate the start of the school year, and beyond. This season is definitely “re-imagined”, but I am confident, hopeful and optimistic that it will be a great and rewarding experience for all involved. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you and I look forward to see you on the fields this season!
