Announcements and Important Events
Good Evening KMS Families & Friends,
We will begin our home and away sporting events this week and the race is on for the next 6 ½ weeks. Let's hope Mother Nature cooperates and we can sail through the fall season as smoothly as possible! All parents/guardians should have received an email from your athlete’s team during the holiday weekend about the upcoming week's schedule. If you have not, please reach out to your coach directly to get on their email list.
Here are a few general housekeeping items from the Athletic Department regarding our sports programs at Kennett Middle School:
Parking, Pick-up’s and Drop offs: All parents should be picking up and dropping off their student athletes at the usual spot by the Football tower. This is the process for the regular school day and should also be followed for practices and for games/meets – both home and returning from away. Student-athletes will be supervised until 4:45 on practices, days, once the late buses leave - there will be no coaches and no supervision. Once students leave the school campus, they are not permitted to return without an adult.
Practices & Games: Kennett Middle School's athletic participation allows your student-athlete to have quality experiences and grow in a safe, supervised environment. Part of middle school athletics is to learn, be challenged and gain independence. We want to support our children as they develop an identity as a student-athlete and team member, so we must allow their commitment to their team to come from within them. When we are too involved, we hamper this development. Parents should not be coaching from the sidelines. Please keep a respectful distance from the team, coaches and players at all times. Middle school athletes should focus on what the coach is asking and, or directing them to do. Games should be a time for parents to enjoy watching their child and team play.
Additionally, we ask that all parents and spectators follow the NHIAA guidelines and please refrain from hanging out at the team bench and should watch the games from the opposite side of the field.
No Dogs Allowed - Please do not bring your dog to the KMS sports fields, they are not permitted.
Fans must be respectful to the home and away athletes, coaches, teams and referees all times. Heckling, poor sportsmanship and/or rude behavior will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave. Kennett Middle School is always in need of referees and umpires - if you feel that you can do a better job, please contact the Athletic Coordinator's Office, we are happy to get you in a game.
Supervision at Home Games: Students must have an adult supervisor when attending a home KMS sporting event. We love to see the students at the games and on the sidelines cheering on their friends and teammates, however, they must have an adult at the game who is responsible for them. Please do not drop your students off unsupervised; students cannot stay after school unsupervised.
Parking: spectators should park in the parking lot between KMS, CES & SAU9. There are limited spots in front of the KMS cafeteria for those who need to be closer to the cross-country meets and or soccer fields. Please do not park in the bus lanes . If you have a loved one who needs assistance getting closer to a field, please contact me in advance and we will make arrangements to make that happen. Olympic Lane should not be used as a thru-way to avoid traffic.
School Attendance & Tardiness: Students and parents/guardians should familiarize themselves with the KMS school & sports attendance policy. If a student is late to school or misses a practice, they may be ineligible for a game or meet. You can find this information in the Kennett Middle School Student Handbook and also be sure to revisit the KMS Activities code (under files & links).
Schedules: All sports schedules are available online at www.GoKMS.com under the “Fall” link and then select your sport. *These are tentative schedules and subject to change. Be sure to sign up for email alerts and text messages if you have not done so already. Any game or meet changes, cancellations or updates will be made and posted here. This can be seen easier on a desktop, or click the white angles square in the upper right of your phone to get the drop down. Contact your coaches directly with practice, game or roster questions.
Late Buses: The Madison, Freedom* & Conway late buses leave KMS at 4:45 sharp and go to KHS for student transfers and to pick up KHS students. The Conway late bus schedule is now posted at www.GoKMS.com under File & Links. Note: This is an abbreviated bus route for the town of Conway and does not provide door to door service. This is a convenience to parents and does not cover every road in the Town of Conway. Also note that the times are approximate and drop off times are dependent on who is on the bus, traffic, weather, etc. CLICK HERE.
The Freedom late buses will be running to the Middle and the High Schools, Mondays - Thursdays as planned. Students will be instructed to go to the Freedom School District Elementary home page and log into the "Friday Late Bus" tab and request the bus by Wednesdays of the week if they would need transportation on Fridays. Otherwise, if no one signs up for the late bus by that Wednesday date, there will be no Feedom late bus on Fridays. Should students ask, could you please direct them to the FES homepage to request the bus. Please contact SAU13 with any questions about the Freedom late bus.
Over Use & Injury Prevention: Check out the information from KHS Athletic Trainer Colby Locke on Over Use & Injury Prevention in Middle School Athletes. Click here for Info. If your athlete is playing more than one sport this fall, or is on more than one sports team throughout the course of the year, please have a conversation with them to see how their body is feeling and if they need a day off from a sport they are doing outside of our team. Sometimes a day off is needed to help the body recover.
KMS Sports Apparel: If you are interested in ordering KMS Fall Sports Apparel please stay tuned – more information is coming soon!
Kennett High School’s 100th Birthday Celebration will be held on Friday, September 22nd & Saturday, September 23rd. It's a weekend full of fun & games, and even fireworks on the KMS Campus and even a traditional Homecoming Parade through Conway Village. KHS will hold their varsity & JV homecoming games here at KMS on Saturday. We hope to see you there and sporting your best Black & White! Volunteers are needed - please email Saralyn Smith if you are willing and able to help!
