A message from the Athletic Department: Parking, Dogs, Late buses, etc

Good Afternoon KMS Sports Community,

Our teams are hard at work and busy with games and practices.  Thank you to all who have come out to support our athletes and take in a game or meet.  Here are a few reminders as we move forward and finish out the school year with sports, home games and after school events:

Parking for Games/Meets: Parents should park by Conway El and walk to the sports fields or wait by the football tower for athletes after games/practices.  There are minimal parking spots in front of the cafeteria -  these spots for our elderly/physically impaired spectators. If you need additional assistance for elderly or physical impaired spectators - please contact KMS Athletic Coordinator Gredel Shaw or your coach.  No Parking in bus lanes at any time, please. Additionally - this is foul ball territory for our baseball field and poses a risk of vehicle and windshield damage, and baseball spectators line up along the buses only roadway.

Reminder that there are NO DOGS allowed at or on our athletic fields.  Our fields, and campus as a whole, has seen an increase in dog owners who use and abuse our beautiful athletic fields by leaving behind sticks in the mowing areas, not picking up their dogs feces on our sports fields, sidewalks, and sitting areas where our students sit and play during the day for class, or where our athletes play on in the afternoons. (Not sure about you - but I would not want my child to step in dog poop with cleats or slide in it in soccer or baseball.)  Additionally, in recent years we had a parent’s dog bite an athlete from a visiting school, causing bodily injury.

We do not have these rules to be difficult, or upset people’s lives, instead it is to keep our students safe, provide a clean and orderly sports facility and help maintain the beautiful fields and campus that so many students, clubs and activities enjoy each and every day. Please know that we are not the only school or sports facility that has a no dog rule.  When our rules are not enforced by all, it makes our job here at school harder and we take grief from parents when we do enforce them.

Parent pick ups - Parents should pick up their players at the football tower after school, after practices and after games.  Please DO NOT LINE UP BY THE SAU9/KMS/Rec Courtyard. This creates a traffic jam and can easily be avoided.

Students must be accompanied by a parent when coming to watch a game or meet and must be with them at all times.  Students are not permitted to stay and hang out after school unsupervised.

Please be sure to take all trash and garbage with you when you leave. Wild critters often get into the garbage and make a mess. Kennett Middle School is a carry in/carry out facility when garbage cans are not available.  Please leave our facilities as clean, or cleaner, than you arrived. We are fortunate to have such a great facility and hard working grounds crew.

All fans must be respectful to the home and away athletes, coaches, teams and umpires/referees at all times.  Heckling, poor sportsmanship and/or rude behavior will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave.

Late buses leave promptly at 4:45.  Please make sure your student-athletes are on a late bus or picked up at this time on practice days.

We have some of the most beautiful and scenic fields in the state.  Enjoy the view while you make your way to the fields.  Please be aware of the Conway Scenic Railroad when crossing the tracks  - the train should be starting their afternoon runs soon.

Please reach out to your individual coaches with any sport specific questions, we are working to reschedule canceled games and meets!

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
